Description: Perform systematic studies of the subtransmission system to ensure adequate capacity and reliability for current and future needs of GTC's Member Systems. Identify, initiate, develop, and seek ITS inclusion for all needed subtransmission captial improvement projects and load-serving capacity increase projects. Perform required studies to ensure that the subtransmission system can support proposed load-serving additions. Support the development of the ITS Load Forecast.
Education: B.S. Electrical Engineering. Concentration in Power preferred.
Experience: Zero to three years of experience, preferably in the electric utility industry.

Special Skills/Knowledge: IBM PC proficiency; excellent interpersonal skills; good understanding of power systems analysis, good oral and written communication skills; good understanding of engineering economics.
Description: Provides engineering design of distribution and transmission class substations for new and modified substation projects under the guidance of senior engineer or designer. Assists senior engineers in research, engineering studies, and the evaluation of materials. Determines estimate components for Owner Furnished Material, Contractor Labor and Material, and man-hours associated with performing design activities for new projects.
Education: Bachelor of Science - Civil or Electrical Engineering
Experience: Zero to three years of experience, preferably in the electric utility industry.

Special Skills/Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Microsoft Word and Excel, CADD system (AutoCAD).
Description: Working under the direction of the Senior Reliability Engineer and Department Manager (1) assist with the efforts to improve the reliability performance of the Integrated Transmission System by focusing on reducing the risk and impact of outages to the electric system when it is in abnormal status (2) assist with the investigation and analysis in order to establish and improve methods to combine scheduled maintenance and construction work to maximize system availability, and (3) assist with the analysis and team efforts to improve existing processes to involve Member Systems (EMCs) into the scheduling process.
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
Experience: 0-18 months power utility experience.
Equivalent Experience: (a) Associates Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with at least four years of construction, maintenance and/or operations experience with an (transmission) electric utility.
(b) Eight years of direct experience in the areas of substation and transmission line construction, substation and transmission line maintenance, and/or system operations at the 46 kV - 500 kV voltage levels with an (transmission) electric utility.
Special Skills/Knowledge: Proficient with: Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and graphics; experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, large databases and/or Microsoft Access. Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to independently plan, organize and successfully complete assignments.
Description: Performs protection and control functions requiring electrical design of distribution substations and the selection and application of standard engineering techniques, guidelines, procedures and standards. Assignments are routine with limited judgment on the details thereof and are reviewed for sound engineering practices. Will work as an apprentice under an experienced transmission engineer.
Education: B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience: Zero to eighteen months experience in the power system or electric utility environment.
Equivalent Experience:
Special Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of electrical control theory, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), and distribution protective relays. Ability to interpret one-line, three-lines, electrical elementary, electrical connection and wiring diagrams.
Description: Provides technical support in the Bulk System Planning activities of the Corporation by performing bulk planning studies, generation interconnection studies, and supporting more senior engineers in making recommendations for the best overall system improvements. Develops transmission projects that support internal and external approval for the release of capital transmission construction projects. This will include the ability to independently perform transmission analysis and project justifications.
Education: B.S. Electrical Engineering.
Experience: Engineer III - three years in Power Systems with at least two years in Transmission Planning.
Equivalent Experience:
Special Skills/Knowledge: Excellent computer skills (minimal programming); proficient with power flow analysis; competent financial & economical analysis capability; good interpersonal & analytical skills; and effective oral and written skills.
Description: Performs physical design, grading and site design, or structural design of electrical power substations or transmission lines. Creates drawings, specifications, and contract documents to be used for construction, fabrication, or site grading. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria required for design, identifying possible adaptations and modifications. May represent Substation Design as an internal part of a corporate team on assignments with clear and specific objectives. Assists senior engineers in the training of new design associates. Assists in research, engineering studies, and the evaluation of materials. Develops new design specifications for approval by senior engineer.
Education: B.S. in Engineering. EIT or PE preferred.
Experience: Engineer III - Three years design experience preferably in the electric utility industry.
Engineer IV - Six years design experience preferably in the electric utility industry (four with a PE).

Creates drawings, specifications, and contract documents to be used for construction and/or fabrication. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard and unique design techniques, procedures, and criteria required for design, identifying possible adaptations and modifications. Conducts or assists in research, engineering studies, evaluation and approval of materials, and design standards development.
Education: Bachelor of Science - Civil or Electrical Engineering.
Experience: Engineer III - three years experience preferably in the electric utility industry.

Description: Performs Protection and Control functions requiring detailed electrical design of GTC facilities and the independent development, design, evaluation, selection and/or application of guidelines, procedures, engineering techniques and technical standards in an economically efficient and sound engineering manner. Represents the Protection and Control functional area as an internal part of corporate teams and in corporate interfaces to Member Systems and other utilities. Make decisions on protection and control engineering problems and methods independently with instructions as to the general objectives and limits. Supports the review of work products of junior level Protection and Control staff.
Education: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience: Eight years experience (six with P. E.) in power system environment with at least four years in system protection, relay and control design or substation testing and at least two years of key leadership responsibilities.
Equivalent Experience:
Special Skills/Knowledge: Knowledge of symmetrical components, electrical control theory, distribution and transmission protective relays, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), computer hardware/software applicable to protection engineering. Ability to design and interpret one-line, three-lines, electrical elementary, electrical connections and wiring diagrams. Effective communication and presentation skills. Ability to travel independently.
Description: Performs advanced System Protection and Control functions requiring detailed electrical design and/or protection of GTC transmission and generator interconnection facilities. Independently develops, designs, evaluates, selects and/or applies guidelines, procedures, engineering techniques and technical standards in an economically efficient and sound engineering manner with instructions as to the general objectives and limits. Assists in directing the growth, development and integrity of the System Protection (Protective Relaying) and/or Design ( Relay & Control) Program. Conceives plans and conducts engineering projects in areas of advance scope and complexity that uses new and innovative technologies, concepts and approaches. Supports team goals and objectives and assists with the supervision of staff by coordinating work activities and the review of technical work products. Acts as a liaison with individuals and departments within and outside of the Corporation with responsibility of acting independently on matters pertaining to System Protection and Control.
Education: BS in Electrical Engineering (preferably with emphasis in Power System)
Experience: Ten years (eight with PE) electric utility experience in power system engineering and design with at least six years experience in System Protection (Protective Relaying) and Control and at least three years of supervisory or key leadership responsibilities.
Equivalent Experience:
Special Skills/Knowledge: Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, presentation, conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Also, must have good computer skills and should be proficient in areas of symmetrical components, electrical control theory, protective relaying, CADD, project management. The ability to interpret electrical drawings and manage multiple tasks and assignments is critical to the success of this position.
Description: Participates in the design of high voltage electrical substations and/or high voltage transmission lines for the purpose of creating drawings, specificatons, and contract documents to be used to construct and operate those facilities. All work is done under close technical guidance of senior design staff. Position is required to perform with most of the following software: drafting, design (structural, transmission line, civil), engineering (hydrology, electrical grounding, EPRI). Position is required to perform in one or more of the following disciplines: high voltage electrical substations, high voltage electrical transmission lines, and civil site development or structural design.
Education: Two year Associate Degree in a related technical field.
Experience: None
Equivalent Experience: Four years design experience on electric substations, electric transmission lines, or land development projects.

Description: Under close supervision conducts relatively simple to progressive negotiations with landowners to acquire the necessary property rights for the construction of electrical transmission lines and subsequent settlement of ordinary construction damages on the easement properties. Must be able to communicate the purpose, construction and operation of a planned transmission facility. Assist with the siting of transmission facilities, prepare budget estimates, analyze comparable sales data, research courthouse records for property ownership, negotiate for survey permission and/or land rights, participate in public meetings, and prepare appropriate land acquisition documents.
Education: B.S. Degree in Real Estate, Management, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
Experience: Zero to four years experience acquiring property rights for electrical transmission line rights-of-way and substation sites.
Equivalent Experience: Five to ten years experience acquiring property rights, researching courthouse records for property ownership, appraising properties, or conducting physical engineering surveys and preparing plats.
Special Skills/Knowledge: Excellent verbal, written, and negotiation skills preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to maintain professional demeanor and composure during adverse public contacts.
Description: Provide a full suite of project control services to transmission line and substation project teams in a project office environment. Design, develop, implement, and maintain standard project control processes for cost, schedule, and resource management, benchmarking, and risk analysis for multiple capital projects using Primavera Project Management software. Produce weekly and monthly exception and status reports. Prepare substation and transmission line projects annual cash flow and baseline for annual Capital Budget. Prepare special studies and analysis as directed by project managers. Support the development of project control improvements using lessons-learned analysis. Coordinate development of proposals for competitively bid projects.
Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management.
Experience: Six years of project control-related experience.
Equivalent Experience: A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Special Skills/Knowledge: Must be proficient with the MS Office Professional Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Experience using Primavera Project Management software is highly desirable. Experience with relational databases (Access) is also preferred. Registered or qualified for immediate registration, as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and American Association of Cost Engineers (AACE).
Description: Under close supervision, secures federal, state and local government permits, licenses and utility encroachments required for the construction and maintenance of electrical facilities. Coordinates utility relocation projects between GTC and external agencies.
Education: Two year Business Administration degree or related field.
Experience: Zero to five years experience in Regulatory Permitting; experience in utility construction or engineering field a plus.
Equivalent Experience: Five to ten years experience permitting utility construction projects and/or coordinating DOT relocation projects
Special Skills/Knowledge: Ability to read and understand utility and Department of Transportation plans and specifications. Excellent verbal, written and negotiation skills preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint.
Description: A transmission equipment field specialist position that coordinates and oversees the GTC transformer and breaker major repairs, upgrades, and training. The person in this position will be expected to work with the manufacturers, industry equipment experts, Georgia Power equipment specialists, and contractors to be aware and knowledgeable of how to install the new transmission equipment and on-line monitoring devices. This person will also be responsible for the implementation of equipment service advisories, improved testing procedures and guidelines, modification kits, and necessary upgrades.
Education: Associate Degree in Engineering Technology.
Experience: Sixteen years of experience in transmission construction, operations or maintenance.
Equivalent Experience: Twenty years of experience in transmission construction, operations or maintenance.
Special Skills/Knowledge: Competent in the use of a computer, PC, digital camera, MAXIMO, major equipment analysis software, and substation test equipment. The ability to interpret and utilize engineering drawings and specifications, GTC safety practices and electric operating procedures is required. Contract administration, conflict management skills, and a GA Drivers License are necessary.
